A Natural History of Solar Whales is a science fiction novel that follows the unexplained history and behavior of the solar whales that orbit the sun. Their fate is wrapped up in the events of the life of a 15-year old girl who has strange dreams while in prison. Set amid the islands of the sea, the adventure begins with Katrice wanting to return home.
Katrice attempts to free herself from her captors, a conspiratorial race of men called the chrysalis men. Meanwhile, a curator of a museum observes her escape and discovers her relationship to the solar whales: her strange dreams account for their origins and their fate. She must risk her own life in order to save them.
