Price: $2.55
Reminiscent of cowboy storytelling around the campfire, Keeper of the Word is an eclectic mix of short stories with a wide range of genres. In his first published collection, David McClain uses a charming conversational style that keeps us pulled in to every word, waiting for what we soon learn will come at the end of each story: the “a ha” moment, humorous or thoughtful or eyebrow-raising. Running the gamut from romance to fantasy, from thriller to mainstream, each story has a constant theme – a pondering of life and love well-blended to touch the reader’s hearts.

Keeper of the Word, by David McClain, is a collection of short stories. There are more than 20 stories in this book. They vary in size and content. I was worried that I wouldn't enjoy the book. As has happened frequently in my life, I discovered (somewhere around the first page) that this was a needless worry. Each story sucked me in. Even the stories that, content-wise, I would never have thought would be my cup of tea. I was delighted with the diverse selection of stories. Some were light and funny, some were sad, some were heartbreaking, all were thought-provoking. I was in awe of David's varied imagination. Many of the stories touched me deeply, but none more than Journey Into Darkness, a story about the casualties of war that many never think of - the survivors. Even though this was a short story, I felt it totally encompassed what war is and what it does to those who are in it. It truly made my heart ache. I wish I were articulate enough to really express to anyone reading this... More > post just how wonderful this book is. I will treasure it always.< Less

"Brought back Memories" I am still reading David McClain's "Keeper of the Word" and will most definitely read it again. His short stories brought back many childhood memories of listening to my father tell me stories of his childhood as well as his experiences. Though the stories have been changed slightly , I recognize a few of the many adventures by my father, grandfather, and great uncle. I recommend reading this book, you will enjoy it! I am anticipating the arrival of his novel as well.

"Keeper Of The Word" If you like a variety of genres in your short stories, some clever twists and turns and warming humour, this is the book to read. In his own words the author is a storyteller with originality and his own unique voice. I have my favourites within the book, but admired the range and variety of topics covered. An enjoyable and often moving set of short stories by a talented, imaginative writer.

"An Indie with Mainstream Spirit" Let's face it, many independently published novels suffer from lack of craft and lack of editing. David McClean stands out as an indie worth watching, for lack of neither. His stories will linger in the mind well after the story ends and you'll likely want to go back and reread a few times. Check this one out and watch for the upcoming novel!
