This is a delightful story! A terrific smoothie blend of coming of age, surviving the freewheeling, free spirited, spontaneity of youth of the 1970s/1980s, and a quest to follow one of the greatest bands of all time, The Grateful Dead. The writer pulls from his own past all the funny, not so funny, poignant, happy and frustrating experiences he and his fellow travelers endured as they follow the band from gig to gig across the country. Sometimes getting through on just their own wits, others by the generosity of good hearted folks. This is an excellent read best accompanied by any of the songs of The Grateful Dead for that outrageous and genuine flashback experience! David McKibben has written in such an inclusive style, I felt like I was in the car along for the ride! I met Freddy online back in the year 2000 on a website called GarageBand dot com and we were instant close friends with very powerful chemistry. So powerful, a few site members thought we were an item, and others... More > accused us of being in a relationship. No, just very close friends. We had hundreds of hours on the phone, usually five or more hours each time, and traded thousands of notes, instant messages, chats, emails, texts, snail mail letters, presents, posts and even wrote a song together on the site's forum. He told me bits and pieces of this journey and I always hoped to hear more. Thank you David for taking the time to create this! Freddy died far too soon within the last few years and this book is a wonderful tribute to this very talented songwriter! Keep the rock a Rollin' jukes loves Freddystribe forever! P.S. For a truly genuine experience... The groovy, folkadelic songs of Fingers and Sunshine evolved beyond this time period and can be found and enjoyed at Reverbnation. com 9< Less
