Impressive in detail and ambitious in scope, Transitor takes you into a well-realised future and drives a relentless pursuit both figuratively (of the meaning of existence) and literally. At the core it contains some compelling characterisations, tension and bucket loads of philosophy and physics. I'm very excited to see what comes next. I'd be lying if I said I didn't skip some of the more extended introversions, science diversions and monologues but that was because I wanted to know the outcome and had bought into the protagonist's struggle. Some of the existential abstractions of Kubrick's 2001 combined with the scale and plausibility of Iain Banks are there.
