Business Model Validation is at least as, if not more, enjoyable to read as any of the Malcolm Gladwell or Nico Nassim Taleb books. But you really can’t make money from reading most popular business books. However, because Business Model Validation gets deep into the nitty-gritty of assessing business models, the reader can make much better business and investment decisions. For instance, readers will learn how mandatory retirement age policies ratchet up the risk profiles of companies as well as how initiatives taken by companies to increase morale force employees to become more myopic. There was great insight into how reverse stock splits destroy enterprise value as well as why a company’s extended receivables collections can actually be a signal of a company’s strength. The example given about a franchisor and its franchisees being overly aligned was really interesting.

I learned a tremendous amount from this book. I am sure that I will be able to apply a lot of this insight into making better investment decisions. The book was surprizingly well-written, especially for a book so packed with valuable kernels of knowledge.
