In 1980, before cell phones, flight attendants, sterile concourses, and PC proliferation, there were discos, Tab, Aloha Airlines, Fredrick and Nelson's and Liberty House. Always torn between two very different physical settings, Jennifer Hammond's intensity for life got her into trouble and gave her great joy. She loved people and places too deeply, and she needed a level of excitement most people shunned. Her intense involvements required exquisite planning and flexibility.
Hawaii was very different in 1980 from now; the way women loved was changing, and people's attitudes toward fun and adventure was maturing. The choice between living conservatively or living intensely seemed shifting toward more freedom.
Maui County takes place in many settings but with a small cast of characters. Readers may enjoy the physical descriptions of Snoqualmie, Haleakala, Nanakuli, and Mt. Shasta.
