This is a very honest and straightforward book, well-written, by a man who came of age in the sixties, torn from his home in a blue collar city and tossed into the jungle of Vietnam. The language and imagery are not for the faint of heart, but the writer came from a tough industrial city across the river from Boston, and it shows in his reactions to the world that was thrust upon him. At times funny, sometimes coarse, occasionally sad, but always worth your attention. There is not a dull page in this book.

A great read for anyone who came of age when President Kennedy was assassinated. A description of the times and a personal perspective showing the transition from a street corner Rock and Roller, near Boston, getting drafted by President Johnson in 1965 at 19 yrs. old and six months later changing into a stone killer in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. One of the first Long Range Reconnaisance Patrol soldiers in the age old concept of individual warfare. Transition from the European style of fighting Army's to the theory of utilizing small teams of man hunters much like the warriors of the French and Indian Wars. Shows the introduction of the Huey helicopter as the transit vehicle of choice for the military.
