Oct 1, 2013The author creates a page-turner pace worthy of a Dan Brown, displays the court room savvy worthy of a John Gresham and addresses the fine points of the constitution worthy of an Allen Dershowitz. Early in the book I’d think, well I don’t think it would have happened like that. But that was because somehow I was under the impression that the protagonist Vera (aka Victoria) was going to be an admirable character. Not so, she is a tough cookie and the book is more engaging because of that. Hope we will be hearing more from D. D. Parker, an apparent new arrival on the literary scene.
Apr 6, 2013The author has set up a scenario where the shady past of the acting President threatens to cause a constitutional crisis. A real page-turner that illustrates a potential problem with the Presidential succession established by the 25th Amendment.
Mar 14, 2013I loved DD Parker's style of writing and compelling story of political action and intrigue. It was a good read that was hard to put down. One surprise after another is woven into this saga of a young woman whose life takes a shocking turn rather quickly and early on. As well as her past is obliterated and she rises to great accomplishment and leadership, her secret is exposed several years later. It would be difficult to believe that such events could occur which lead to its final inevitable ending. DD Parker spins this story in such a believeable manner, though, that the reader comes to realize the situation could happen. The fault in the 25th Amendment is clearly conceptualized. The last sentence of the novel echoes resoundingly in my ears. Read "Madame Vice President"!
Jan 4, 2013This is a fun, political intrigue story which portrays what seems to be a serious problem with the 25 Amendment to the US Constitution. Haywood Holderness
Oct 7, 2012This engaging, intricately plotted political thriller interweaves the elements of a gritty crime story with a tale of intrigue at the highest levels of government, spiced along the way with courthouse drama, action adventure, and cold-case investigative journalism. The heroine is a New York teenager mixed up with a drug gang who restarts her life with a fabricated identity under the witness protection program, and, through her intelligence and pluck over the next 25 years, rises to national prominence. Studded with a rich assortment of characters, that saga, effectively told with leaps across time, is worth the read for sheer entertainment. But the story has a second, more serious mission: to show the weakness of the 25th Amendment in the matter of presidential succession when a sitting president is incapacitated. Highly recommended.
