I have just finished Chime The Hour, and it's a cracking read. At times, the book moves at almost break-neck speed, and at others, it's almost deliberately slow, to savour the horror of what is taking place. The stories within Chime have a reoccurring theme & thread which runs through the dark heart of Dean Carter's doomed town: Orchard Wells. The book's characters intertwine with one another & crop up all over the place, making it almost like a horrific version of Pulp Fiction. The portmanteau approach to the book works extremely well all culminating in a frightening Mexican-stand-off. The characters are well drawn and the read can relate to them as some undertake journey's far beyond our own reality. The elements of style in Chime are reminiscent of Lovecraft & King - cosmic horror meets rural township, where on the surface it seems perfectly normal, but nothing is normal. Overall, I'd recommend Chime The Hour to all those who love sci-fi, fantasy & horror. Just pray... More > The Hurdy Gurdy Man doesn't pay you a visit.< Less
