Like a "Masterpiece Theatre Novel" but in short story form. Draws you into the characters and leaves me wondering what in the !@#$ happened to Hannah?

Beautiful descriptions give a genuine feel for life in Cahawba, the first capital of Alabama, during the early 1820s. This engaging novel has interesting and well defined characters facing a myriad of situations, good and bad, within the state's colonial period. One is drawn into the book easily and soon identifies with the residents. Upon leaving, not only is more known about the area, era and fate of Cahawba but there remains hope that there will be a sequel.
