The introduction of Dante's Inferno: A Comedy tells the story of two undead brothers who, in one night filled with madness, issued a dare to each other, went into separate rooms, and came out at dawn with their version of Dante’s classic tale. After they joined their works together, they returned to their graves - where they wait still and silent ready to rise up again to wreak artworks upon the unsuspecting world. The prose adheres to the classic work, so that all fans will certainly know what they’re reading, but the Brothers also used modern day words, sights, and sounds so that people less familiar with the original can glom on to a whole new realm full of the darkest circles of mankind. The poem's adapted text makes special effort to leave the intent as intact as possible while also adding extensive notes and unique, accompanying illustrations for each Canto. The footnotes form a second, parallel narrative that expands upon and reshapes the pilgrim's (often comical) story,... More > providing supplemental information to the poem about the realm of Satan and all things Infernal. Of course our own leaders and many other modern day political figures, such as Bill O'Reilly, appear in the text as well to solidify the fact that not much has changed over the years when it comes to dark and evil deeds. It is a comedy, after all. Highly recommended< Less
