This is a great book, if you're ready for a trip in to a musicians mind. For fans of the music of Santeria/Brother Dege, this is an absolute must as it sheds some light on Dege and the characters he finds himself interacting with; from the rest of the band, to his family, to meeting people on the road. I got to one point about 3/4s the way through the book where I wanted to grab him by the lapels and give him a good shake - the depression stuff is really hard to get through, especially when you believe in the music they make. I like how one moment it's a journal loaded with excess and adventures, and the next it's very insular and a look at a man afraid of his future but with a strength that will keep him going. So yes, hard work, but ultimately fulfilling, charming and funny. Recommended.
