"Re: Walk Don't Run the story of The Ventures" Andy, sorry you were not impressed with the photos. I have tons of the common Ventures pics, but I sought out the rare ones, and have received dozens of positive responses from readers about them. As for Bruce Botnick, I had not heard of him until reading your post. Since then I have found his name on a couple of records, but he apparently didn't figure heavily in the band's career or he would have been mentioned during one of my countless conversations with the band. The only engineer they seemed to remember was Joe Boles in Seattle. Many thanks for your kind words. ~Del H.

I can't say how appreciative I am that Del Halterman went to such detail in this book! I am absolutely floored. In the first fifty pages, I stumbled upon the answer to the age-old mystery of why Don Wilson and Nokie Edwards, as opposed to Don Wilson and Bob Bogle, played at a Portland Oregon car dealership in 1962 (on a cassette I’ve owned for decades). The pictures are fantastic (black and white is no issue here folks, y'all haven't seen 99% of these). I'm sure I'll have more to say when I really dig in but I am just so excited and impressed by what I see so far. Ventures fans around the world owe Del a great debt! Marty Tippens Glendale, CA

"Walk-Don't Run - The Story of The Ventures" Being a Ventures fan since my friend's older brother first introduced me to two of their earlier albums in 1961, I have always wanted to know more of them. Even though they are finally inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame there are so many that do not know of whom they are and it is a real shame as they helped pioneer the now taken for granted classic line up of two guitars, bass and drums. In the sixties they really stood out not only for doing all instrumentals but playing their instruments so well. Their playing ability was far above many of their counterparts. Only other then Britain's "The Shadows", The Ventures were so unique in their sound and especially their excellence of musicianship. As the more senior musician's of today know, they are an influential force for so many to take up the playing of either guitar, bass or drums. I am one of them. I just received my copy of "Walk-Don't Run - The... More > Story of The Ventures" and am so thrilled by how much information that is in this book. The photos are great to see and overall it is just a wonderful dream come true to finally have detailed insight as to what was previously elusive. I highly recommend this book not only just to any fan of The Ventures but to any person whom has just discovered them for the first time. You will be fascinated by one of rock and roll's greatest instrumental pioneers of all time. Cheers, David Grigg< Less

"Re: WALK DON'T RUN- The Story of The Ventures" Book is interesting and long overdue account of The Ventures and how it all began. However, I was a bit disappointed at how Nokie Edwards' role was downplayed. I have always considered him the heart of the band and I believe the book has him involved with Don and Bob much later than he actually was involved in the group. I don't think of The Ventures without thinking of Nokie Edwards. best regards Larry H
