This book is the first of its kind : a comprehensive guide to hip dysplasia in adults. Whether diagnosed as a child, and having ongoing hip problems, or diagnosed as an adult, this book will help you. Also recommended for those having total hip replacement for any reason. It covers everything there is to know about developmental dysplasia of the hip in adults. This guide covers everything from hip anatomy and surgery, to recovery and the psychological aspects of the condition.
The book includes 19 chapters, over 50 illustrations and x-rays, over 400 quotations from adult hip dysplasia patients, a glossary, cited references, and a comprehensive index.
Both authors have bilateral hip dysplasia.
An awesome book for anyone diagnosed with hip dysplasia. The book is full of great information and it's a valuable resource for patient's as well as for caregivers. Reading the quotes from other's with the same condition gives you some relief in knowing that you are not alone in this journey. The book is well written and very easy to understand as they explain in detail. Thanks to Denise and Sophie for writing this book!!!
What a HUGE relief for folks with this rare but life altering condition! I was feeling isolated and alone when I found this group it changed my life. Now to have a book that can get the message out and provide the same reassurance and peace to so many is a wonderful thing! The book is well written and interesting the personal stories are the best and practically every quesiton you might have about going through PAO and hip dysplasia are there, crazy good!
I can't tell you how much I wish this book had been available to me years ago! It is simply a MUST read for anyone dealing with hip dysplasia. Sophie and Denise have brought together a vast amount of information and made it simple and easy to understand. I would think it especially valuable for anyone who has recently been diagnosed. Great job ladies!!!
This book is long overdue. As a person diagnosed with hip dysplasia a few years ago, I wish this book had been written when I was struggling to find information. Most of what I found was about babies or dog. When I read the book I had been through a PAO surgery so I felt like I knew a lot already, but I still learned things by reading the book. I think the combination of experiences of the authors is what makes the book so great. They have both been through it so they write from personal experience. Dr. Sophie's medical experience provides the technical aspect of the book but it's written so that the info is digestible by someone without any medical education. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a full education about hip dysplasia.
The book I wish I had 3 years ago! Nothing goes unanswered in this book and it is so well written and on a "low key, lay-man's terms" level. This material has information from some of the leading hip dysplasia experts in the world and also from actual patients and their advice, thoughts, fears, and wishes from start to end. The book is staged well, from explanation of hip joint anatomy, to description of dysplasia, diagnosis all the way through to recovery from the many surgeries hip dysplasia can require. There's even a list of blogs from fellow hippies and websites to explore. This is the book to get if you're new to dysplasia and need some guidance and an anchor in what is surely a chaotic time for you, or even if you're a "pro" and would like reference material for friends or family who still don't "get it"! Thanks Denise and Dr. Sophie for what is truly a keepsake book:)
