Jun 5, 2012This book has helped me so much! I had my PAO on the 15th May 2012 and I knew exactly what to pack, how to get prepared and it was a real eye opener - it even helped my husband on knowing what to kind of expect! Its reassuring quotes and messages from other hip women make you realise you are not alone. I found it comforting and it has given me and my family a greater understanding into the hip dysplasia condition. A life saver I'd call it! :)

Reading the quotes from other's with the same condition gives you some relief in knowing that you are not alone in this journey. The book is well written and very easy to understand as they explain in detail. Thanks to Denise and Sophie for writing this book!!!
Jan 22, 2012What a HUGE relief for folks with this rare but life altering condition! I was feeling isolated and alone when I found this group it changed my life. Now to have a book that can get the message out and provide the same reassurance and peace to so many is a wonderful thing! The book is well written and interesting the personal stories are the best and practically every quesiton you might have about going through PAO and hip dysplasia are there, crazy good!
Jan 21, 2012I can't tell you how much I wish this book had been available to me years ago! It is simply a MUST read for anyone dealing with hip dysplasia. Sophie and Denise have brought together a vast amount of information and made it simple and easy to understand. I would think it especially valuable for anyone who has recently been diagnosed. Great job ladies!!!
Jan 21, 2012This book is long overdue. As a person diagnosed with hip dysplasia a few years ago, I wish this book had been written when I was struggling to find information. Most of what I found was about babies or dog. When I read the book I had been through a PAO surgery so I felt like I knew a lot already, but I still learned things by reading the book. I think the combination of experiences of the authors is what makes the book so great. They have both been through it so they write from personal experience. Dr. Sophie's medical experience provides the technical aspect of the book but it's written so that the info is digestible by someone without any medical education. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a full education about hip dysplasia.
Jan 20, 2012The book I wish I had 3 years ago! Nothing goes unanswered in this book and it is so well written and on a "low key, lay-man's terms" level. This material has information from some of the leading hip dysplasia experts in the world and also from actual patients and their advice, thoughts, fears, and wishes from start to end. The book is staged well, from explanation of hip joint anatomy, to description of dysplasia, diagnosis all the way through to recovery from the many surgeries hip dysplasia can require. There's even a list of blogs from fellow hippies and websites to explore. This is the book to get if you're new to dysplasia and need some guidance and an anchor in what is surely a chaotic time for you, or even if you're a "pro" and would like reference material for friends or family who still don't "get it"! Thanks Denise and Dr. Sophie for what is truly a keepsake book:)
Jan 15, 2012I have been through the hip dysplasia journey from childhood to my first THR age 40. This book has been wonderful and covers all the aspects I have searched and searched to find over the last few years when I've been coming to terms with my seemingly never ending treatment. I was so glad to see the section on childhood experiences as I have long felt the experiences from my hospital treatment have had a lasting effect on me as an adult and have shaped the person I am today. For years I felt like I was the only person ever to have this condition! Now I don't feel so alone. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
Jan 5, 2012A Guide for Adults with Hip Dysplasia is an incredibly complete resource about hip dysplasia and its treatment in adulthood. Speaking as an adult with hip dysplasia, there isn't a single question I can think of that this book doesn't address. Not only does this illustrated book clearly explain hip anatomy and surgical treatments, it goes beyond the medical context to offer practical advice and emotional support for patients before, during, and after surgery. The authors' friendly tone and the many quotes they've included from patients who have been through treatment really bring this book to life. Thank you Denise and Dr. Sophie for writing this wonderful book. It's a welcome addition to my bookshelf.
Jan 3, 2012This is an incredible book, and will be very helpful to anyone with hip dysplasia or a caregiver. It includes all you need to know about dysplasia, from hip anatomy to helpful tips regarding surgery and recovery. It is full of quotes from real patients on a variety of subjects. The book is a wealth of information from two talented authors who not only know the matter in theory, but lived through surgeries themselves, with contribution from many patients around the world. If you are getting ready for a hip surgery, this is a must have, it will help you tons and save time on Internet research and information gathering.
Dec 30, 2011Whatever stage you are on in your hip dysplasia journey, this book is like having a close friend along who understands exactly what you're going through and can tell you what you need to know. I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who has, or is close to someone with, hip dysplasia.
