    I've never had a cholesterol or weight problem. I've always been slim and I've always maintained a healthy cholesterol. Like so many other people, I've always loved junk foods - but I rarely ever ate them out of fear of what they would do to my health. This book took away my fear of junk foods. For the first time, I felt that I could enjoy junk foods without feeling guilty! I have been following this book's eating plan for about 8 months now, and I have not gained any weight or increased my cholesterol! I often eat junk foods around my friends. My friends often say: "I don't understand how you manage to stay so thin eating junk foods like those." What my friends don't know is that I also eat HEALTH foods rich in fiber and antioxidants during the day. This book takes away the need to LOSE weight by teaching you how to minimize your chances of ever becoming overweight in the first place. There is a section in the book that discusses how even NON-dietary factors such as STRESS,... More > CIGARETTE SMOKING and ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION can cause you to become overweight. This is truly an "all-around" book because it not only discusses the ways in which fiber and antioxidants can lower your risk of heart disease and obesity by counteracting the effects of the fat in your diet, it also gets into issues regarding CANCER and other diseases. For example, the book explains how two antioxidants can counteract the cancer-causing effects of processed meats such as bacon, hot dogs and sausages. I've read a number of health books during my life, but never anything quite like this!     "counteract the fat review" My cholesterol had been high for quite some time. After my total cholesterol count exceeded 250, my doctor started talking about putting me on cholesterol medication. The primary factor that has always made it difficult for me to keep my cholesterol healthy is my fondness for fatty meats and junk foods. I knew the importance of maintaining a healthy cholesterol, but I didn't want to have to give up my favorite foods to do so. I also didn't like the idea of being on medication. Then I was introduced to this book. Not only did this book help me lower my cholesterol by about 30% without deprivation or medication, it also helped me lower my blood pressure without having to significantly limit my sodium intake. My blood sugar levels also improved. My only criticism is that SOME of the information in the book is more than 10 years old and could use an update. Other than that, this book is an excellent alternative for people who are SET IN THEIR WAYS... More > (like me)!< Less

    "Counteract The Fat" I purchased a copy of this book at a small seminar that was conducted by the author back in January of 2009 in my local area. I will admit... I was VERY skeptical of the book's concept. I soon discovered that the book really was everything that the author said it was. This book gave me what is perhaps the best reason of all to get more fiber in my diet. To say that the reason why I should increase my fiber intake is that it merely "lessens my chance of disease" would probably not be a good enough reason to motivate me to get more fiber in my diet, but to say that the reason why I should increase my fiber intake is that it "allows me to have my cake and eat it too" is an entirely different story! This book uncovers research findings on how fiber and antioxidants can counteract the effects of fat in the diet. Although we can't eat all of the high-fat foods we want everyday, having greater freedom in making food choices is certainly... More > something that we all can appreciate! I followed the eating plan for 60 days, and - with some support from the author - my total cholesterol fell from 194 mg/dl to 156 mg/dl. My LDL fell from 107 mg/dl to 75 mg/dl. My triglycerides fell from 81 mg/dl to 59 mg/dl. My HDL (the GOOD cholesterol) rose from 34 mg/dl to 49 mg/dl. As an added bonus, I didn't gain a single pound on the diet! This book taught me how to make ice cream, hot dogs, sausages, cheeseburgers, doughnuts, cookies, Hostess Suzy Q's and other junk foods a PART of my diet without gaining weight or increasing my cholesterol! I will admit, a high-fiber diet does take some getting used to. It took me couple of weeks to adjust to it. You have to be TRULY motivated and disciplined!
