How lovely to see this comfortable blend of easy, tasty contemporary dishes with favourite haimishe classics we remember from our family holidays. Chicken soup and borscht sit comfortably on the same menus as light salmon dishes and vegetarian onion tarts. Real family recipes with lovely old black and white and sepia photos if the original family cooks. A manual that will prove a kitchen buddy for years to come.

At last, the food I enjoyed in childhood, and the fridge shelves that I return to as an adult can be recreated in full flavoured splendour. Even if this book comes with a more cautionary awareness and very workable lower fat and cholesterol versions of the dishes of yore, it does not skip a tastebud. A family album for all the senses that matter.
