Trauma can change a man, in ways that no one can understand until they have been in his shoes. Reno of the Turks is assigned to guard ShinRa's new cyberneticist during the demonstration of her greatest work, From boyhood, he had been fascinated by robots, and to be allowed to be close to the work of someone like Doctor Kimiko was like returning to his childhood again. During the demonstration, something goes wrong. The robot destroys the stadium, and Reno becomes trapped inside the burning building. Doctor Kimiko finally regains control of the robot, and it rescues him from the stadium, but due to the emotional trauma of watching the robot tear it apart, of seeing the dead glass eyes, being removed from the building by it breaks him. The only way to save his sanity was for him to withdraw mentally, to become what had terrified him so badly. Now, his friends must figure out how to get him back, while trying to unravel the mystery of just how it had happened. . .one that lays within the doctor herself.
