John Corbally immigrated to America in 1747 as the Baptist religion opposed the King’s Anglicanism. He became a lay minister, but persecution drove him to the Pennsylvania frontier. This wonderfully researched book offers a detailed look into how one man, his family, his neighbors and community navigated the treacherous & tough times as our country was forming. The events that run through John's life are amazing. His response to those events is perhaps even more so. Thanks to Don Corbly for illuminating the great great great great grandfather I've heard about distantly, but never knew much about. I had the thrill of finding John Jr.'s almost forgotton grave outside of Cincinnati--almost lost to time. And the graves of Delilah, the girl who survived scalping, and her older sister, Priscilla. The headstones were worn away but still readable...at least for now. It was a thrill. I went into the Pennsylvania Archives in Harrisburg and half-a-dozen local history collections, but I could have saved myself a lot of time, trouble, and money had I known that this wonderful book was about to reveal the very things I was trying to find in all of those places. The important thing I discovered was: I could see that it would take a lifetime to do John Corbly justice. Now everyone can find out so much about this amazing American patriot and man of God.
