Jonathan's blindness leaves him no choice but to beg on the streets of first-century Jericho. Dismas prefers to make a living by stealing. Neither expects anything better until friends encourage them to hope for more. Jonathan has a friend who persuades him to come and hear a traveling preacher named Jesus. While Jonathan tries to make sense of Jesus's teaching that forgiveness will bring peace, Dismas is taken with another leader — one who preaches that only rebellion will save the people. Both men must choose which is the right way to respond to a world that has wronged them. Forgive. Or strike out in revenge.

The story itself is engaging and a quick read. It does need more proofreading and editing, however.

"Miraculous!!!" This book is an astounding example of how God is truly alive in our world. By chapter five it had already climbed the ranks to my favorite book and is sure to do the same to all its faith-filled readers. Reading this book refreshed in me the beauty of something easily forgotten–- namely sheer, God-given joy. Its blessing is so intense that no eye can face the emotions it induces dry. Don Shilling manages to deliver through his book so beautiful a message that one might think God Himself recorded its texts. This novel brings to its readers a mind-altering peace and healing similar to the sort it describes as stemming from Jesus. The vitality that it boasts show that its author is greatly blessed by the hand of God. It screams of the hope and faith that are the true spiritual foundation of all that is Christian. Its pages are alive with the Holy Spirit, and its every word proclaims the joy and peace of God and His blessed Son. God smiles as He reads Chains of... More > Glory, and inarguably, what satisfies God will satisfy His followers. With an obvious mastery of the art of writing and a plot unsurpassed by those of my experience, this book is a contemporary “unexpected miracle” of Jesus Christ! -Adam Waller< Less

"From the World's Leading Expert... (Updated Edition)" As the only person to have read the book multiple times (I'm up to three) and the only member of the author's own family to have read the book (as of May 14, 2004), I consider myself the world's leading expert on Chains Of Glory: Author Don Shilling did fantastic work on his first novel. Not only did he catch the excitment, fear and power of the time period, but also the love and romance. A must read if you call yourself a friend of the author... Best Part: Jesus's lines in chapter 8 Worst Part: (DXiXd I mXeXnXtXiXoXn I lXoXvXe yXoXu DXaXdX?X) XCXhXaXpXtXeXrX X2X5X Note: This statement has been repealed on account of the fact that I enjoyed EVERY bit of the book on the third reading. There is no longer a worst part. -David Shilling
