My writing career began in the fourth grade with cartoon strips starring Long Nose of Long Nose Town and a story about my traumatic experiences in a hospital when my tonsils were removed. At that time, I also enjoyed making things like a Three Bears outdoor village and a fully functioning pinball machine while I was just nine years old. Over the years my building projects got bigger—much bigger—to building a three-story nine-level vacation house—and my interest in telling others about them also continued. After writing horror and sci-fi (see Cool Short Stories), I returned to chronicling my youth, including these wild summer adventures in the little town of Hinsdale, Illinois.

Cool! It's really cool! What did kids do back in the fifties, brobably not what Don does in this book, some of it yes, but he was obviously very creative and that got the neighborhood kids involved, for lots of fun and shennagans. Adults will enjoy this book more than the kids 'cause they don't do none of this stuff anymore; its ipods and video games now, but what did kids do in the summer back in 1958? This book is definitely fun to read and lots of laughs. I loved it.
