Review of the novel “Sally” (2010) Like the heroine of this story, the novel “Sally” is both dark and light. Sally follows the story of a young woman who leaves her Southern California home to get away from an abusive step-father. Her travels take her to Las Vegas, back to Southern California, up the California coastline to Oregon, east to Chicago and back to Oregon. Along the way, her journey transforms from one of escape to one of self-discovery. Sally fights both external and internal battles, meets a variety of interesting people, and attracts friends due to her acting and musical abilities. Readers who like the theater and classic movies will particularly enjoy this novel. Author Donald Murie crafts a quick-moving story that will keep the reader engaged. The author has a special gift for vivid descriptions of places and landscapes. Readers who have visited California and Oregon will enjoy re-experiencing these locales through the author’s prose. Readers who have not visited these... More > places might be inspired to plan a vacation there. Also, take a look at author Donald Murie’s other novels, including “Willy Goes Wild” and “Shaper,” both of which are available from Amazon and from Lulu.com.< Less
