Reading Donna Kakonge’s How to Talk to Crazy People is both fascinating and frightening: fascinating because she offers the reader a guided tour of her unpredictable and wacky dark reality and frightening because in her sane incarnation tour guide Kakonge is as ordinary, rational and common as the reader. Her descriptive descent into her personal hell reminds us that we each have dark depths that conspire against our functionality and our sanity and of our need of others to avoid these depths. I have had this book for about a year and it continues to influence my thoughts about life, sanity, reality, the author and myself.

Brave, courageous and insightful- "How To Talk to Crazy People" is a wonderful read if you want to better understand and support those who suffer from mental illness. Kakonge shows us just how challenging and how frightening it can be to go through a psychotic episode. She also demonstrates that where there is mental illness there can also be hope and success.

This is a true story of a remarkable individual and gives you a thorough understanding of what it is like to successfully persevere through life’s challenges while also coping with the difficulties of a mental condition. This book had me hooked from beginning to end. I found that this story has helped me to grow even that much more appreciative of the struggles faced by those who have had to deal with testing mental conditions while performing day to day life responsibilities. Impeccably written and greatly beneficial; this book is a must read.

I looked at the preview and it looks like a very authentic and honestly revealing book that will help all of us have more compassion, understanding, and kindness towards people facing intense and unusual mental conditions. All in all this kind of sharing helps us be more human and recognize the common bond we all share in life.
