He was many things in many places. He was a writer going by the name of Verless Doran. He was a truck driver. He was a dishwasher. He was a cab driver. He was a carpenter. He was a soldier. He was a husband. He was an adulterer. He was a sex addict. He was a pill popper. He was homeless. He was on the run from the Feds. He was a preacher. He was a plumber. He was an ice cream man. He was a father. He was a deadbeat. He was in jail. He was in East Tennessee. He was in Tijuana. He was in San Diego. He was in Seattle. He was in Little Rock. He was in New York City. He was drunk.
Now he is Donnie Lamon. Now he is his Christian name. Now he is his mama’s miracle. Now he runs the non-profit ministry Five Loaves and Shoe Leather. Now he distributes backpacks to the homeless. Now he is sober. Now he writes again.
