The Kingdom of Mélekh is now a forgotten dream, little more than ancient ruins and a note in history. The world of men is once more divided, while a sinister threat grows in the desolate lands to the north. Zidek, the immortal prophet who set the Crown of Ancients upon King Mélekh’s brow a thousand years ago, has taken interest in a young farm boy named Chayim. Acting on a prophecy regarding a coming hero destined to destroy the liche-sorcerer, Tsar-Echthros, and prepare the way for Mélekh’s return, Zidek takes the boy under his wing. Together, they set out on a quest to locate Mélekh’s ancient sword and armor, which the king long ago divided among his knights for safe keeping. If Chayim is to survive the coming battle and save the world from despairing darkness, he will not only have to accept his calling, but learn how to tap into the very power that brought about the creation of the world.

A word from the author: I grew up loving fantasy. The first book I ever read of my own volition was "The Hobbit," followed by the "The Lord of the Rings." My interest in fantasy continued on through my twenties, including series like "The Wheel of Time" and "The Sword of Truth." These books were not only entertaining, but they reached the potential "hero" within. They touched a part of me that would be brave... that would make a stand for goodness and decency. These stories inspired me to think I could fight against terrible evil in this world and make a difference! I am not a hero, as it turns out, but these stories inspired me to be a better person. They were at least partly responsible in shaping the kind of person I would am today. As soon as I sat down to write this story, it unfolded rapidly and coherently, almost as if it was being dictated to me. Page after page poured out. Even I did not know where it would go next, and... More > yet...the story, the characters, the dialogue came together as if it had all been carefully planned out. Page after page, the story's twists and turns would surprise even me. It was a delight to write. And after two years of rewrites, proofing, and small improvements, I present it to the world. This novel was originally targeted for a young adult audience, rendering a fast-paced story driven by action and dialogue not bogged down by long descriptions. It could be compared to the Chronicles of Narnia, being somewhat parable-like. It is first and foremost an entertaining fantasy. It also delivers a message while remaining accessible to a wide audience. The novel definitely has a spiritual underpinning to it. Christians may recognize certain metaphors or elements to the story that may reflect the Gospel of Jesus, for example, but the story is not preachy and does not attempt to evangelize the reader to any particular religion. It can be enjoyed by all readers, regardless of faith (or lack thereof), allowing them to take from it what they choose. If anyone desires an autographed copy of these books, they can contact me. I welcome feedback on these stories. So far, aside from a few technical issues, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Enjoy! - Douglas Hatten< Less
