This volume is a collection of the writings of Douglas Helms on topics ranging from the history of the cotton boll weevil and the
soils of the South to the history of soil and water conservation programs in the United States. They were authored over a more than thirty year career as a historian in the public service at the National Archives and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service and Natural Resources Conservation Service.
