A natural heir to the Beats and Confessional poets, Isaac writes about experiences most of us would rather not admit or talk about--betrayal, desertion, near madness, despair and homelessness. However, the material is redeemed by a strict poetic discipline, formal play and a sardonic voice that is entirely his own. In the words of Canadian poet Gary Geddes, “These anti-poems, the title of which is a genuine cri de coeur, emit a whiff of the sulphurs of hell but, for all that, they are a breath of fresh air after the rarified atmosphere of creative writing classes and academic poetry.”
