Harmattan Overture is written for full symphony orchestra and a Nigerian traditional instrument, agogo (twin bell). The work was inspired by the main cold season experienced in Nigeria between the months of December and January respectively. The idea was to use musical language to capture the various innuendos that characterize this type of weather. Although, the work tonicizes various keys, the tonality is best described as pandiatonicism--the technique of using the diatonic scale without the limitations of functional tonality. Harmattan Overture is an original work.
