Dr. Wayne Talley has conducted a fascinating and carefully constructed study to evaluate the effects of character education on student behavior and academic performance. The study is based on a program in a small rural community in eastern N.C., focusing on students in grades 7 - 12. The findings provide a strong indication that student performance went up and discipline problems decreased when the school made character education a priority. Dr. Talley's study makes the crucial point that commitment and buy-in by teachers are a decisive factor in the success of any character education program. The book is aimed at school leaders, but it provides valuable insights for parents and any organization that serves children and youth. Highly recommended!
