Poetguese in a Word Utopia. The first book of lettrs
Paperback, 142 Pages
Prints in 3-5 business days
Every now and then a book appears from the least suspecting of places, in the hearts and minds of young people where the innocent soul knows most naturally the language of poetry. In late 2013 and across the vast landscape of Brazil a movement—not a revolution—was started, a Utopia of sorts, where the words of young writers would shine light on a new medium for personal letters. Without ever formally organizing as official “poets” these eager children wrote on their computers and mobile devices with such beauty, longing, and passion that they showed us what the future holds for lasting words in a digital age. This first-ever work is a digital-to-physical compilation of a no grander mission than to share words we always hoped and dreamed that kids today could write.

Oct 8, 2014This book is so much more than a collection of letters; it's the perfect example of a realm that the publishing world is dipping into: taking digital words and turning them into a tangible product. With Poetguese, you're able to see firsthand the juxtaposition of these two mediums, and how seamlessly the words of these young Brazilian writers translate into book form. Bravo to the social messaging app lettrs for having the foresight (and dedication to the Brazil Poets Society) to see beyond their own digital platform so that the rest of the world may appreciate and fall in love with the thoughts and musings of a younger generation.
Oct 8, 2014This is so inspiring! As I South American writer myself, I feel very proud of this accomplishment! It is incredible what technology and passion can do together. I hope there will be more compilations in the future bringing to light other unique cultures and talented people around the world. I can't wait to read and share these poems!
Oct 8, 2014What I can't believe, and what excites me most, is that this is a book with content written and taken from an app! lettrs is a wonderful social network for any mobile device, if you haven't tried it, it's basically Instagram for words. This book is a product of Brazilian writers and poets who wrote and continue to write on lettrs. They write about love, loss, success, and life. The writing is great and easy to understand in English or Portuguese (if you speak Portuguese). My favorite thing is the concept behind the publication of this book. Few companies give their users a voice in such a way like printing and selling a book of their work. I'm going to keep writing on lettrs and hope my next poem gets picked for the 2015 lettrs book!
Oct 8, 2014What an interesting idea. I read about this book on a news article and had to check it out because it said it was born from a social messaging app. That's not something you would expect to produce poetry or anything of substance really so I feel inclined to check it out. I've gone ahead and ordered the book and will write another review later. In the meantime, I will have to go check out lettrs to see what else is around. I definitely plan on handing this book down to my son who is currently studying abroad in Brazil as we speak!
Oct 8, 2014Incredible book representing the product of a new medium in an old one. It's amazing how technology has enabled a young group of writers in Brazil to create the poignant poems presented in the book, and I hope this kind of behavior can become a new standard in a world of impermanence.
