Pedro Mendoza's Violin is an easy to read tale about a boy and his journey out of poverty. Pedro is a boy raised in challenging conditions, but is presented a new experience when he finds a violin and is supported by an individual in search of meaning to use his abilities. It is a well researched story that provides insight around challenges faced by families living in slums in and around Manila Philippines, as well as challenges the nation faces with current disfunctional Government systems. But it is mainly a story about empowerment. The story provides a framework for individuals to change outcomes for less fortunate individuals based on a belief that people can change their own destiny if provided with options. Pedro Mendoza's Violin explores the concept that people are empowered by their own actions, hard work and decision-making if options are made available to them. Pedro is a character who will stay with you for a long time. People interested in the Philippines or just... More > interested in the well-being of other people should read this book. Music lovers will also find something memorable here.< Less
