Aldrick follows the events of the unnamed narrator and his friend, Aldrick, who move to Australia to study, and how their attempts to cope with being strangers in a foreign land take them down the path of depression and mental deterioration. Aldrick’s blatant schizoid paranoia through the eyes of the narrator mirrors the narrator’s inability to recognise his own histrionic narcissism in his attempt to deal with his strangeness by using sex, alcohol and hallucinogens. At the end of the story, the reader realises that both characters fall into the same stupor of madness.
