Linear Jazz Improvisation Book 2 - Concert Instruments
ByEd Byrne
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
In this book, you will begin applied practice of the technique of Chromatic Targeting of Reduced Melodies described in Linear Jazz Improvisation: The Method.
Book 2 covers the 4 basic triad types (major, minor, augmented, and diminished), ranging over 2 octaves. The exercises are notated in the 3 most common jazz keys of concert C, F, and Bb to get you acquainted with the patterns; once you have learned these by ear or rote, you can apply them to the other 9 keys. These exercises are also excellent for basic ear training on this most essential chordal vocabulary.
Download the free sound files and practice along with the clips. All exercises are paced at a leisurely metronome setting of quarter note equals 60 to get you started, but tempos can be adjusted as desired.
It’s a good idea to study Book 1 before or while doing these exercises.
