if this is ed chappell's first novel i hope he does more. His manifest writing ability really comes into its own in those sections of the book where tensions run high and emotions are stretched to the limit. There are not many books that cause my tears to flow quite so readily, or that cause not only my knuckles to go white, but my heart to pound quite so violently. One observation i would make is that it is rather a slow burn. The fuse is lit early on, but it takes a while for the flame to reach the touch paper. When it does - BANG and the story really takes off. This is very much a matter of personal taste. Even in the less dramatic sections, the descriptive quality of the writing is so good that one is carried along anyway. Definitely a good read.
