Thuvia was the daughter of Thuvan Dihn, Jeddak of Ptarth, and Carthoris was the son of the great John Carter of Mars. In the gardens of Thuvia's father, Astok, Prince of Dusar, attempted to forcibly kiss Thuvia when Carthoris arrived and broke it up.
