Growing up in the southwest part of Virginia in the 1940's, I can relate to so many of the events in this book. The author gives a vivid description of what it is like to grow up in a small community and the interactions between, not only, the hard working members of the community but also the total involvement of the parents and other family members in the day to day life of the featured family. This book is an easy read and held my interest from the first page to the last. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the way families lived their lives in the late 30s and 40's. I am looking forward to the authors second book in the near future.
