If you choose to, you can read this book quickly. The format is thoroughly accessible and the author is hilarious - witty and wry. But take my advice - do not rush through. This is not just an uplifting book for other stroke survivors, or a humorous cautionary tale for the rest of us. Ms. O'Donnell's story of her life and recovery after-stroke would be a worthwhile and compelling read if it were only about that topic. But it is the small details - the truths about one life, revealed through humor - that will stick with you. Several times I had to put the book down while I savored an unexpected moment of poetry or a surprising revelation. This is the story of a whole person, and Ms. O'Donnell is fearless, fierce, and unflinching as she makes sure that you know that. We all have our imperfections, demons, and heartaches, and we are expected to handle them with "grace." Ms. O'Donnell reminds us that "grace" can be overrated; perhaps, when we are in a fight for our... More > lives, we should just allow ourselves to be graceless, goofy, angry, feisty, and human. Take your time with this book.< Less

This book was fantabulous!!!!!!!! It was utterly hilarious, which is a much better way to deal with the "indignities" of being in a hospital. The lounge wear leaves a lot to be desired as well as some people and instead of seeing the negativity Elaine makes it a more fun journey with just the right touch of humanity. I giggled at least once (usually more) per page. A must read if for nothing else than joy!!

It's a book of humor, hope, strength, a feel good book that leaves the reader with a sense of themselves and who they can be when something happens. Makes a great book for someone who is surviving anything. One of the books I gave to a woman going through a divorce from a man that cheated on her and got someone pregnant. She loved it!

This book was one of the most witty, engrossing, descriptive, serious yet with such humor that I enjoyed every page. I recommend it as a definite "must" for everyone. Lots of tips on signs to avoid a stroke.
