Price: $8.96
Here are the exciting adventures of two loving friends who, in their "retirement," deliver sailboats to exotic islands in the South Pacific and thread their way down Australia's Great Barrier Reef among their many adventures. Join them as they experience violent storms with gale-force winds and dangerous anchorages, battling huge fish and often catching and eating them while crisscrossing the International Date Line. Toasting King Neptune while crossing the equator. Avoiding dangerous coral reefs and rocky shores. Feel their frustrations dealing with breakdowns in rigging, engine, generator, steering and ripped sails. Enjoy the quiet of a star-filled night watch on a long passage, or endure the fright of looking at the last drop of drinking water. Invited to royal functions in the Kingdom of Tonga, they experienced the boundless generosity of the Polynesian islanders they met in French Polynesia, the Cook Islands, Samoa and Tonga.

Thank you Elizabeth for bringing together your letters from yours and Anders' journeys into this absolutely fantastic reading experience. I tell you, I started reading in bed at 10 pm and at 4 in the morning I had to stop, but I finished the book the next day. This is really a book to recommend to everyone who has ever dreamt of doing things; travelling, exploring whatever! Elizabeth from Switzerland, Anders from Finland, both retired from their careers in Canada, met and found their common dream; to explore the world by sea. They formed a company to sail other people's boats from one place to another. As you follow their breathtaking adventures you realize what exceptional people they are; sailing is not an easy job, in the high seas with boats that not always are what they were promised to be. You have to be physically and mentally strong. Elizabeth's text is easy to follow, this is a woman's view. Anders is the captain, Elizabeth the navigator, doing long watch shifts when... More > everything has gone wrong. For example: ripped sails, boat half filled with water and the owner in a not too pleasant mood. Their resourcefulness and their open ways of meeting new people and making friends everywhere is charming. It's a love story. The book is also full of good stories about places they visit, interesting food, exotic animals and above all the natives of the South Seas. As a retired librarian I would recommend this book to everyone: as a read aloud gift to seniors, to stressed people in their working life dreaming about doing something else. You can do it, get fit ( you'll need a strong physique & SISU). Kristina Boström.< Less
