Mandalas of Me

Teacher GUIDE “Once we celebrate our identities, then we can start to see our connections.” The “Mandalas of Me” project is based on the Asian mandala symbol, a symmetrical circular design representing the effort to reunify the self. The project not only allows students to appreciate themselves and their surroundings but also addresses educational goals and meets many academic standards. Through engaging in design, documentation and sharing of their work, children hone their skills in math, writing and public speaking, and have the opportunity to improve their English language skills. The sharing of work among students from different cultural, ethnic, and language backgrounds increases pride, self-esteem, and cross-cultural awareness and respect.
