I am re-writing my online "Geology of the Pacific Northwest" community college class that I teach using "Field Guide to Pacific Northwest Geology" plus Ellen Morris Bishop's other book "In Search of Ancient Oregon" as the course textbooks. The book is enjoyable to read as the author has a style of writing that invokes mental images of geological events and environments rather than just mechanically stating facts. Several of my students are new to geology. A 5 to 10 page section giving 1) a short explanation of how the Geological Time Scale developed using type fossils, rock stratigraphy, and radiometric dating, and 2) an explanation of the theory of Plate Tectonics would be appreciated. The book does have a image of the Geological Time Table. If the production version of the book is as profusely accompanied by the same type of photos as Ellen Morris Bishop's other book "In Search of Ancient Oregon", I will be overjoyed.
