My first thought was "what a strange place to look for beauty". as I turned the pages I was struck by a humble beauty. The looks of sorrow, compassion and love connected me to the humanity of our species. While going through the pages of "The Faces of Grief" I found myself trying to figure out what cultures created the statuaries and where the cemeteries were located (with surprising results). All in all a surprising entertainment wrapped around a topic that I had no idea could be so interesting.

I am blown away by the artistry of the statues depicted in this unusual and moving collection of photos. It is impossible not to respond to the emotions called up by the sadness and beauty of these stone figures. There is a world of skill and humanity that can be found by seeking out these cemeteries and Zaroff has done that for us.

Zaroff has captured the grief in these stone faces. It is surprising and moving to feel the emotions coming from the cold stone. Zaroff has found the elegance and grace in these monuments to sorrow. Here is art too often overlooked.
