Late in 1938, Philippe Armand Verdier, age 42, American volunteer aviator in the Air Arm of the International Brigades, arrived in Tolosa, a war torn small town in the Basque region of Spain near the south western French border. While filling his canteens from a wrecked fountain, that he encounters Cecile Therese Aillaud, 25 year old young lady who survived the bombing but is left with death threatening wounds. Together for just brief moments at a hospital, a spark of affection ignites into a developing love between the two strangers.
