This is a counting book originally made for the Naskapi children in Kawawachikamach, Quebec to help them learn their numbers by counting caribou. The caribou is a very important part of Naskapi culture. This version of the book includes clever English rhymes as well as the original Naskapi written script to help kids learn numbers (with a twist ending, no less!). Perfect for the young Einstein in the family. You can PREVIEW THE ENTIRE BOOK by clicking on the "preview" button on the book's page, or download the PDF for free!

Sachidun Childcare, the locally operated childcare centre in the Naskapi community, commissioned the publication and approved the story and the drawings featured in this book. The translation and spelling has been reviewed by the language department at the Naskapi Development Corporation. This book is part of a series that represents a significant improvement in the quality of early literacy materials available in the Naskapi language. As more of these titles are developed and placed into the hands of eager early readers and their parents and caregivers, we have great expectations for improvement in the literacy skills for the next generation. We strongly recommend the use of this book as your precious little ones are introduced to reading in Naskapi.
