In the year 1700, the god of time died. It was late September, and the Villa of the Gods sat atop a plateau in what is now New Mexico. Back then, though, the place had no name, and there was nothing there but red dust and jackrabbits. This particular plateau was very large, and flat, and still the Villa filled up the whole of it. The Villa of the Gods, you see, is not just the Mediterranean style house, but also the grounds: acres of meadows, brush and woodlands, spring fed pools and streams. It is quite an impressive place...

(august 2010) I've revisited this book and I enjoyed it just as much the second time round. The first time I read this, (when it was originally published) it blew me away at how good it was. I'd enjoyed the media that Mr. Strauss had put on his website; including music, spoken word audio and some articles so I thought his book might be fun. It was fun indeed, but moreover it was clever. I neat little story that addresses big issues without being preachy or irreverent. Now that a few years had passed, I found myself missing the guy. His website gone, and with no further creative endeavours available elsewhere I thought I'd revisit the novel. Knowing too that the work never really went onto to have a life outside of this lulu page. This is a crying shame. Had this book been the first of many (or even a few), then fine. But ultimately it has become the only online media available pertaining to its author. The story, put simply, a group of gods interfere with a world where time runs at... More > different speeds in different lands. It upsets me that this book has been so overlooked. It really deserves to reach a large audience. There is so much rubbish online these days, lulu is flooded with unproofed, unedited, badly formatted, masturbatory, derivative clichéd nonsense. There is no reason why this book should stand well above that. Finally, I've got a daughter that's ten weeks old and when she's old enough I'll read this story to her because I'm sure she'll enjoy it.< Less

"Not a bad little book" This book is aiming somewhere in the whimsical fantasy region of Discworld, with I reckon some influence from Sandman. Best when describing characters and environments with truckloads of imagination, but the dialogue and pacing is kind of blunt. Certainly not bad - give it a try.
