Quantitation of B-vitamins in Vitamins and Multivitamins using reversed-phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
There are a high number of High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) methods reported that can separate and determine the amount of B-vitamins in multivitamin pills. Many seem to be notoriously time-consuming and require the use of many potentially dangerous reagents. The development of a simplified reversed-phase HPLC method using a gradient on a C-18 column for the old and simple HPLC system at this institution has allowed for easier separation of water soluble Vitamin B standards: B1, B2, B3, B6, B9 and B12 with the addition of Vitamin C. The ability to quantitate these values will allow for a comparison to the values reported by the manufacturers. The continuation of this project will aim to improve the resolution of separation as well as to increase the range of products the method can be applied to.
