    As one of those South Africans "in a far-flung corner of the globe"(in my case, the Czech Republic), it was with great enthusiasm that I started to read "Fourteen More Stories", although I had not yet read "Fourteen Stories" by the same author. I soon discovered that Errol Collen ranks among those rare South African English authors to have succeeded brilliantly in encapsulating the atmosphere, culture, people, way of life and one-of-a-kind dialogue of our homeland. Only someone who has grown up in the unique mix of Afrikaans-English-African can truly appreciate the genius with which the author captures and celebrates that very essence on these pages. On several occasions, I was laughing out loud at the rich assortment of characters and their speech, although I am in a country far removed from ever hearing those familiar voices now. To classify “Fourteen Stories” and “Fourteen More Stories” as a huge dose of nostalgia for any South African—in exile or at home—is no exaggeration.
