The Girl and the Griffin is a tale about young Ella McBride, a girl from London who happens one night, by chance to meet a griffin. This griffin’s name is Gyflie, a wild unearthly creature, born of magic, half lion, half eagle.
Gyflie introduces Ella to a world of magical creatures, where griffins and giants, fairies and elves, live among everyday people, organizing an invisible, underground resistance and fighting a celestial war to protect the children of men, from the low, dull, dark race of beings known as the Doldrums. These Doldrums have laid siege to the human race, their sole aim, to breed unhappiness and pain. To shut out the stars with florescent lighting, to crowd out music with humdrum and noise, to gorge human beings’ taste buds with high fructose corn syrup, causing them to forget the joys of fruit and veg – in short to bore the children of men to death.
