"The Book of Enlightenment" by Ethan Borg, a Rochester, New York, Acupuncturist, swiftly satisfies two audiences: Ethan Borg's Students, and students of Ethan Borg. Ethan Borg's students are enrolled at his Eminus Mirus school, a unique foray into the study of Classical Chinese Medicine. Indeed, Borg's approach to Classical Chinese Medicine more closely approximates Heiner Fruehauf's argument in support of Harold Roth's " ... Contemplative Studies Initiative, which encourages scholars to actually practice the disciplines they study, [where] we have a good example of a unified approach in the fields of religion and anthropology". In this regard, Borg is following the anthropological path of poring over original texts with an intensely curious eye towards nuance, and his courage has been rewarded. So, while "Confession [may be] good for the soul, but difficult for the reputation", Borg's "Book of Enlightenment" serves notice of his confession, and... Students of Ethan Borg have followed the arc of his career path, beginning with his Master's thesis, "The Secret Chamber." While neither audience is disappointed, students of Borg will enjoy several "ah-ha!" moments when bridging the two books contextually. Ethan Borg's students enter his school and work through several levels as they master and practice a novel avenue to Classical Chinese Medicine. For these readers, the "Book of Enlightenment" provides support and insights into each of the four levels. This is especially true for EM Level 4 where students are exposed to Eastern thought nearly exclusively. Students of Heiner Fruehauf may discover a cautionary tale, as well. In short, "The Book of Enlightenment" does enlighten.< Less
