The Eroica Symphony is always moine with the figure of Napoleon Bonaparte, whom initially the Symphony was dedicated in order to celebrate the ideals of the French Revolution. When Napoleon appointed himself as Emperor, Beethoven felt it like a betrayal, and his reaction is directly testified on his manuscript, where he eliminated the original dedication. So, the new title given to the Symphony was “Heroic Symphony”, composed to “celebrate the memory of a great man”. The Final hereby transcribed is composed of a Theme and Variations (with the theme taken from the “Die Geschopfe des Prometheus” ballet). The score is quite suitable for an organ transcription structured on several sound levels, which can be highlighted by a good instrument. In this perspective, the composition presents a direct relationship with the famous “Eroica Variations” for piano, op. 35.
