On April 15, 2007 SSGT Scott Lilley was hit by a piece of shrapnel while manning the gun of a humvee on a road his military buddies hilariously called “IED Alley.” The piece of metal entered his skull under his left temple and changed his life forever.

Nov 29, 2019The Lilley’s journey thru Scott’s injury and healing is proof of God’s goodness and how, if we look, can see He is with us every step of the way. This book is truly a treat for the soul- giving hope to all and the certainty that it is true - He really does bring forth good from suffering. And it is a good so much more than we can even imagine!
Apr 5, 2017Scott's story is truly a must read for everyone. After his injury, his parents displayed incredible faith and determination that their son would survive. His healing is a true testimony to the power of prayer and a mother's and father's love for their child. Read the book and get to know this amazing young man and his journey through the most challenging time of his life. You will have a new respect for the military and people who helped Scott along his journey.
Mar 20, 2017Let us never forget… Frank and Jolene Lilley have shared the story of their son’s debilitating injuries and recovery in their new book, After April by Eva McCollaum. Scott incurred a traumatic brain injury when his vehicle was hit by an IED in Iraq in 2007. The journey from the battlefield in Iraq to the battlefield in the medical arena is heroic and heart-breaking, but ultimately redemptive because of the Lilley’s profound faith in a good and gracious God. Scott’s story is also featured in President George Bush’s book, Portraits of Courage, and deservedly so. After April chronicles why, and I highly encourage you to read it.
Mar 6, 2017"After April" is truly a gift that has been given to all of us by Frank and Jolene Lilley and the Lilley family. It is the story of the journey of Staff Sgt. Scott Lilley after he suffered a traumatic brain injury on 15 April 2007 when his Humvee was hit by a roadside bomb in Iraq. But it is more than that! Obviously it is a story of tragedy and suffering and reminds us of the sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform that give so much to keep America safe. Ultimately, however, it is a story of faith and perseverance in the face of adversity. It is a story of the love, support and sacrifice of family. It is a story of the power of prayer and an unswerving belief in our Creator. It is a story of hope, compassion, giving, strength, laughter, and tears. Finally, it is a story of VICTORY! Read this book about an amazing young man, an amazing journey, and an amazing family. You will not regret it!
Mar 5, 2017This story of Staff Sgt Scott Lilley's journey from death's door to recovery is compelling, sometimes heartbreaking and often heart-warming. It's not just Scott's story -- but a story of how the strength of faith, parents, family and friends can help a person not only survive, but overcome tragedy. I highly recommend this book.
